There Are Lots of Great, Affordable Marketing Automation Resources Available to Small Businesses on a Budget!

Over the last few years, small business marketing automation services have evolved to the point that it's possible to make use of them when you're on a budget - and that's fantastic news if you're looking to get started on a social media marketing program.

These are platforms that we think are a good deal in that they save time and help increase productivity:

1) MailChimp

MailChimp is an email service used for small business marketing automation, focused around helping you create, send, and analyze emails.

The analytics here are what really set it apart from other email services, and they helpfully offer some email marketing benchmarks to help you see how you measure up to the rest of your industry (including details like open rate, click-through rate, and even how many people are unsubscribing). These numbers are frequently updated, so it's worth checking back every month or two.

Pricing starts at free for new businesses with up to 2000 subscribers (although there's a cap on the number of emails you can send each month while you're still on the free program), then slowly scales up based on the number of subscribers you have.

The intent is to always be affordable, no matter how few or how many subscribers are on your list.

MailChimp also offers a pay-as-you-go plan, allowing you to send emails for 2-3 cents each. This isn't as cost-effective as a subscription plan, but if you occasionally need to send emails to a much larger list than usual, it is an option.

2) Buffer and Sprout Social

These two services are comprehensive automation platforms designed to integrate with areas such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Google+.

Like Buffergram, they make it possible to schedule out your posts, see who's talking about you, and quickly respond when people have a question.

You may also see things like comprehensive inboxes where all of the relevant information - including posts on different platforms - are gathered into one place for easy viewing.

As more comprehensive sources of small business marketing automation, both of these services are a bit more expensive. Buffer starts at Free with limited functionality, scaling up to $99/month for a small team and the full service. A free trial is available.

Sprout Social has a similar pricing structure - although it's $99 per-user each month - and also offers a free trial so you can get inside and look around before you commit to using it.

You won't need both of these services, so I recommend comparing their features to your company's needs before picking which one to use.

As you can see, you can use marketing automation on a budget.  Most companies offering these services know you have a limited funds to work with, and they're generally happy to let you use their platform for free - and often for as long as you want - until you're established and seeing enough of a profit to move up.
